Spring President’s Message

Please join us at our Spring Fundraiser Concert on Sunday, May 18 at 2 PM at Jesse Lee United Methodist Church, 25 Flat Rock Rd, Easton, CT. “Home On Leave, Honoring our Armed Forces” will feature songs of the 30’s and 40’s along with a patriotic medley as well as the anthems of all our armed forces. There will be a reception to follow.

The event is free, but as always, donations are gratefully accepted for our Scholarship Fund. Our biannual publication, Keynotes, will be coming out in early May.  If you have any questions or want to learn more about joining our club or receiving a free copy of Keynotes,  please feel free to contact me, your President, Joanne Kant –  203-767-0064   kanjwl@aol.com

Spring is the time we are looking for performers for our annual scholarships. These are awarded to a graduating senior in high school who will be attending an accredited four-year college with a major in music performance, teaching, or music business. Please download the application here if you are interested.

Please note, Dues are $40 and are now due for the coming year 2024-25. Please send your dues to our treasurer, Andree Halcott, 333 Vincelette St, Unit 52, Bridgeport, CT 06606.

MEET OUR 2024 WAMC SCHOLARSHIP WINNER

WAMC has a new scholarship winner, Phoebe Merrill of Easton. She has been awarded a four year scholarship worth $2,000 and will be attending Belmont University in Nashville TN. We look forward to great things from her as she continues her musical endeavors.

Wednesday Afternoon Music Club, 1898-2023

The Wednesday Afternoon Musical Club is an association of talented musical artists and music lovers who wish to share the gift of music among themselves and with the community.

The goal of the Wednesday Afternoon Musical Club is to bring examples of vocal and instrumental musical creativity to the public in a well structured, professionally organized recital format which enables its members to grow, develop and present their art in a supportive and communicative environment as well as to foster young musicians by providing scholarships and opportunities to perform.

Highlights from our Latest Concerts

“Rach 2 Pop” – Classical Tunes that Topped the Charts, Sunday, November 10, 2024

A celebration of Joan Brainerd Noland (1924-2024), soprano and opera impressario, Greg Horton, Music Director. The concert was held at Jesse Lee United Methodist Church. Here is a taste of the grande finale – Gounod adapted Bach’s prelude into “Ave Maria” (1853) and “I Believe” (1952).

“Let’s Have Another Cuppa” – Delectable Songs and Stories, Sunday, June 9, 2024

Our Spring Concert was held on Sunday, June 9, at 3 pm at the Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church – “Let’s Have Another Cuppa.” The concert was a delightful collection of songs about coffee and tea along with interesting stories about America’s favorite beverage.

“By George” – A Tribute to George Gershwin, Sunday, November 12, 2023

The fall concert of the Wednesday Afternoon Music Club was held on Sunday, November 12 at 3:00 pm at Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of George Gershwin and the 125th season of the Wednesday Afternoon Music Club.

Ports of Call – A Meandering Mediterranean Melange, Sunday, May 21, 2023

The last Wednesday Afternoon Music Club concert of the Spring season was held on Sunday, May 21 at 3:00 pm at Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church, Fairfield. Performances included music by Cole Porter, Rogers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Gilbert & Sullivan, and more, all based on the theme of worldwide travel.

Scholarship Winners Concert, Sunday, January 15, 2023

The January 15 Scholarship Winners Concert was held at 2 pm at Jesse lee United Methodist Church, 25 Flatrock Rd., Easton.

Kate Wegener is an oboist in her first year of her master’s degree at the Juilliard School on a Jerome L. Greene Fellowship. She was the silver medalist in the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra’s International Oboe Competition in 2020. As an orchestral player Kate has performed with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Apex Ensemble and the Florida Orchestra. She will be accompanied by Avery Duer.

Michael Kalinin is at UCONN studying for a Bachelor of Music and organ performance. As well as playing for numerous local churches he has enlisted in the US Army Reserves and joined ARMY ROTC as a Military Police Cadet. He is projected to graduate from UCONN and earn his commission in   2024.
